Get shooting Muskoka

GRAVENHURST - The Site Bites Video Contest is now underway in Gravenhurst, as part of its Downtown Revitalization project.
“Open to anyone in the district, no matter how amateur, this contest is a great way to discover some of the attractions, buildings and hidden gems in the town,” said revitalization project coordinator Marilyn de Lang. “If you have access to a video camera, even to a mobile phone that has the video option, pick up an entry form and explore Gravenhurst’s downtown.”
“You can choose a building, a shop, a statue, a park, an architectural detail — any site that interests you,” she added, saying a list of suggestions is available by request.
Entry forms can be downloaded at www.gravenhurst.ca (click on the “Great Place to Grow” logo), or picked up at the YMCA, Chamber of Commerce, town offices, Carnegie Centre (beside the opera house), Muskoka Bay Clothing or North Restaurant.
De Lang said there are some terrific prizes: first place is a round of golf and dinner for a foursome at Muskoka Bay Club (a value of $1,000). Other prizes include steamship cruises and boat museum admission, gift certificates for North Restaurant and Muskoka Bay Clothing, play tickets, and a month’s membership at the YMCA.
All entries will be uploaded to TVCogeco’s website, where they can be viewed, and people can send in their vote for a fan favourite. Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges in June, and their videos will be aired by TVCogeco.
Videos are to be a maximum of 90 seconds and the entry forms give instructions on how to submit them.
The contest ends on May 31, “so pick up your form, choose a site and create a video,” de Lang urged. If anyone needs more information, contact Carolyn Bowman at 705-241-4150 or Marilyn de Lang at 705-644-9397.
