BRACEBRIDGE — The tribute show Buddy Holly Lives! will return to Rene M. Caisse Theatre in Bracebridge on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 8 p.m.
The show is an authentic 1950s-style rock ’n’ roll concert, complete with the costumes, instruments and stage antics so popular during that era. The event celebrates the 51st anniversary of Holly’s last concert, in February 1959, the date singer/songwriter Don McLean called “the day the music died,” in his song American Pie.
Songs chosen for the show include every one of Buddy Holly’s hits, including That’ll Be the Day, It’s So Easy, Rave On and the ever-popular Peggy Sue, performed exactly as Buddy and The Crickets did them, in the late ’50s.
Since its last Bracebridge concert, Buddy Holly Lives! has played to capacity crowds in numerous theatres across southern Ontario, including Kemptville, Cornwall, Kingston, Peterborough, Collingwood, Owen Sound, Bancroft and Elliot Lake. The Bracebridge concert is the fifth stop on the group’s eight-concert 2010 Winter Tour.
The Kingston-based show is performed by musicians Dave Bull, Marty Crapper and Stuart Pike and is produced by Merv Buchanan of Peterborough-based RMS Events.
Tickets are $27 ($25 for students and seniors) and may be purchased at the theatre box office or by calling 705-645-8400.
