Santa Claus parade prepares to roll into town

HUNTSVILLE – Santa Claus is coming to town once again and he wants all of Huntsville to be there. The annual Santa Claus Parade will take place on Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. As per usual, the parade will include floats made by all sorts of organizations, businesses, clubs, schools, and teams, with some being familiar crowd favourites.
“I know that the musical train will be coming back and we have at least three bands coming,” said Rotary Club of Huntsville Lake of Bays’ Nick Paroschy, chair of the parade.
“Forever,” is a common response when asked how long the Santa Claus Parade has been going on.
The famous parade has been around for more than 20 years.
Last year, the parade included 50 floats and Paroschy said this year they’re expecting at least that many or even more.
Every year, Main Street is packed full of hundreds, if not thousands of spectators all the way from Centre Street to the Huntsville Place Mall.
The parade will once again start with the loud fire trucks and end with what the whole crowd waits for – Santa himself.
There is still time left to register your float for the parade. Call the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce at 705-789-4771 to sign up.

Tour the world without leaving town

Seeing the world is as easy as visiting the local public library. “It’s armchair travelling,” said acting chief librarian Caralene Clement. The Gravenhurst Public Library finished its spring travel series with a full house on April 30 viewing a presentation on Costa Rica. Because the series was so well attended, the library is planning a second set this fall.
