Boat show, Rib Fest return to Muskoka Wharf this weekend

GRAVENHURST - Tickle your fancies and the ribs this weekend as the fifth annual Muskoka In-Water Boat and Cottage Show and Muskoka Rib Fest take over Muskoka Wharf.
A massive, on-water boat show and dock-side cottage show of  joins with a three-day, mouth-watering rib festival for what town events coordinator Amy Taylor described as “a great day by the wharf with something for everybody.”
“It’s all free with plenty of entertainment for the whole family, lots of vendors and shopping on one side (of Bay Street) and rib fest on the other.” More than 100 boat and cottage industry vendors will be on hand, along with a bevy of food vendors, she added.
The events begin today (July 27) at noon as rib fest, running in Gravenhurst since 2008, opens and runs until 11 p.m., while the boat and cottage show will wrap up this evening at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the cottage show runs from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Rib fest continues Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. and Sunday, from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Taylor said free shuttle buses are being provided each day of the event, from noon until 4, picking up people in the centennial centre or town hall parking lots.
The cottage show is based on the docks and the central square area of the wharf, while rib fest will take over the sports fields across Bay Street from the wharf.
Rib fest will feature free live entertainment all day with special performances each night as well. Tonight award-winning country recording star Cathy Korpi takes the stage from 9 to 11 p.m. Saturday night during the same hours Harvest Moon, a self-described “grassroots, classic rock band” takes the stage.

Club focusing on controversial books

Tour the world without leaving town

Seeing the world is as easy as visiting the local public library. “It’s armchair travelling,” said acting chief librarian Caralene Clement. The Gravenhurst Public Library finished its spring travel series with a full house on April 30 viewing a presentation on Costa Rica. Because the series was so well attended, the library is planning a second set this fall.
