MUSKOKA - Chartwell’s Senior Star Muskoka Regional Competition was held at the Rene Caisse Theatre in Bracebridge on Tuesday June 26.

Nine talented singers from Coldwater to Novar performed before a full house. The judges for the events said it was a challenge to choose only three winners.

Barbara Curran of Coldwater won top honours for her rendition Pasty Cline’s Sweet Dreams.

Ian Donaldson from Coldwater and Bob Wright from Bracebridge were also top contenders and Mike Napolitano from Gravenhurst danced his way to everybody’s heart for the Peoples’ Choice Award.

One of the highlights that the audience did not get to see was before the show when the group held an impromptu jam session led by Fred Stemper and Barbara Curran!

The other contestants were Fred Stemper from Novar, also from Coldwater Carol Moore, and from Bracebridge Caroline Burns and Ken Delano, and Noel Cooper from Brechin.

“Muskoka can be very proud of the talent we have in our area,” said organizer Linda Birmingham.

Club focusing on controversial books

Delve into forbidden literature at the Bracebridge Public Library. The library’s May book club meeting is centred on banned or challenged books.

Tour the world without leaving town

Seeing the world is as easy as visiting the local public library. “It’s armchair travelling,” said acting chief librarian Caralene Clement. The Gravenhurst Public Library finished its spring travel series with a full house on April 30 viewing a presentation on Costa Rica. Because the series was so well attended, the library is planning a second set this fall.
