Walking in My Mother’s Shoes arts celebration May 12, 13

MUSKOKA - Muskoka Chautauqua presents the sixth annual Walking in My Mother’s Shoes this Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13.
A multi-disciplinary arts celebration of mothers, this ever-growing celebration, showcasing music, art, poetry, spoken word, storytelling and movement, takes place each year on Mother’s Day weekend. It brings together professional artists, the larger community and visitors to the area to share in the celebration of our mothers.
This year’s Walking in My Mother’s Shoes will take place at JW Marriott The Rosseau Muskoka Resort and Spa, beginning on Saturday, May 12 at 7 p.m. with an evening of music, poetry and spoken word tributes. On Sunday, May 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., participants can take part in an interactive Spirit Painting workshop with Krysia Bower, the Muskoka printmaker who initiated the original Walking in My Mother’s Shoes event six years ago. There will also be a visual art exhibition on display over the weekend.
Admission is by donation. Representatives from Grandmothers to Grandmothers, a program of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, will be present, selling jewelry and clothing. Proceeds go to support grandmothers in Africa who are caring for the millions of African children orphaned by AIDS.
This event is held in partnership with the Arts Council of Muskoka, the Muskoka Multicultural Association and JW Marriott The Rosseau Muskoka Resort and Spa.
