Gravenhurst kickback allegations

An investigative story on the front page of the Toronto Star April 21 alleged that Dalton Engineering and Construction Ltd., hired to manage the Gravenhurst Centennial Centre expansion, siphoned almost $1.8 million of taxpayers' money through inflated and fictitious charges and by claiming illegitimate taxes. Dalton has called the Star story “inaccurate” and has said it has instructed its lawyers to commence legal proceedings against the newspaper for defamation. The OPP's anti-rackets branch is investigating the matter.
