Bala Falls Hydroelectric Generating Station

A controversial hydroelectric generating plant has been proposed for the North Bala Falls in the Village of Bala. Residents are divided as to which option is preferred for the structure and whether the project should go ahead at all. Economic, esthetic and environmental impacts have all been cited as drawbacks to the Swift River Energy project that originated as part of the provincial government’s policy aimed at developing new clean, renewable, ‘green’ sources of power generation.
