Local rinks rule bonspiel roost

GRAVENHURST - With teams from across Muskoka and the Greater Toronto Area taking part, it was two Gravenhurst rinks that claimed top spot in the seventh annual Gravenhurst Home Building Centre Men’s Bonspiel.
Well more than a dozen teams vied for trophies in both an open and senior division, including nine visiting teams to the Gravenhurst Curling Club, Feb. 1 and 2.
One of the event organizers, Mickey Bonner, said it was a great weekend for the bonspiel, with this year’s lead event organizer, Ron Isnor, and his team of Peter Ellis, Mike LaPorte and Mark Tingey of Gravenhurst winning the open division.
In the senior division, it was the rink of Bruce Stephenson, Bill Kennedy, Hugh Fairfield and Richard Lloyd that came out on top.
“The Gravenhurst Curling Club and organizers appreciate the generous sponsorship from Bob and Stephen Collins, the owner-managers of the Gravenhurst Home Building Centre,” Bonner added, saying a prime rib dinner put on by club volunteers, lead by Wendy Tingey, was equally appreciated.
“Next year’s HBC bonspiel will be held Jan. 31 and Feb. 1,” said Bonner. “We hope to attract even more teams with great ice, meals and prizes.”
