Senior boys Gryphons sweep out Panthers

GRAVENHURST - The season is about halfway through and the Gravenhurst High School senior boys volleyball team has itself in striking distance of a championship run this year.
The Gryphon crew tipped off against the Parry Sound Panthers Oct. 18, using solid serving and power at the net to control the pace.
The Gryphons swept out the best-of-five series, taking three straight sets against the Panthers 25-10, 25-16 and 25-15 to wrap up the day.
The win put the club into third place in their league, having suffered losses to Huntsville and Almaguin earlier in the season.
“The league’s wide open this year and I think if things stay the same (in the standings) we should be heading into the (Muskoka-Parry Sound) playoffs,” said team coach Corry Ziorjen.
MPS playdowns begin Nov. 8 at Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School. The Gryphons still have three tough rounds ahead, hosting Bracebridge Oct. 23, heading to Huntsville Oct. 25 and wrapping up the regular season Oct. 30 when they host St. Dominic.
