Training pays off for two local MX racers

PARRY SOUND - Two of our local motocross racers, Cole Willis #184, and Nych Burnside #313, attended the Parts Canada TransCan Grand National Championship held at Walton Raceway, Ontario during the week of August 13 to 17.
Both of boys spend countless hours training on their motocross bikes and work very hard to qualify for this Grand National event. This event is renowned for showcasing the top amateur talent from across Canada and some of the USA as well.  Both Cole and Nych were ready to show the racing industry what they had up their sleeves.
Cole raced the 60cc (10-11) class with 24 racers on the gate and the 80cc (7-11) class with 42 racers on the gate.  The Nationals are what Cole practices for all summer and this year his hard work paid off. His goal has always been to finish in the top 10; and with much excitement, he finished with an exceptional ninth overall in his 60cc (10-11) class.  The 85cc (7-11) class was blessed with a very muddy moto #2, but Cole worked through all the races and finished with 21st overall.  All this however could not have been possible for Cole, without family support and great sponsors.  Cole would like to send out a big thank you to his many sponsors.
Nych raced the 80cc (7-11) class with 42 racers on the gate.  Just like Cole, the National is an event that Nych works very hard towards.
He spends the entire month of July working on his racing skills with a bunch of fantastic and talented instructors at the Ontario Camp of the Deaf (OCD) Motocamp program.  The Nationals started off with Nych fighting with bad starts and crashes, but when the mud race came up for moto #2, he was ripping.  He ended up finishing moto #2 in fifth place and didn’t crash once.  When all was said and done, Nych finished with a strong 11th overall in his 80cc (7-11) class.
Another fantastic National highlight for Nych was the opportunity to race in the East/West Shootout on Sunday, during the Pro MX race day. This race is a combination of amateur riders, which are split in to two teams (east/west).
The riders race for a gold medal and bragging rights in front of thousands of people and pro racers.  Nych’s team, the east, won the overall and each racer received a gold medal for their efforts.
None of this would be possible without great sponsors and family.  Nych would like to send out a huge thanks to Mom, Grandma and Grandpa Hamilton, Team Motocamp and The Ontario Camp of the Deaf, as well as his many sponsors.
The 2012 TransCan Grand National Championship was an amazing experience for both Cole and Nych and you can bet both of them will be training hard for another opportunity to race this event next year!  Way to go Cole and Nych!
