Local rowers medal at national championships

The recent 2012 Canadian Masters Rowing Championships welcomed 42 rowing clubs from across Canada, including several local representatives.
The event was held at the Olympic Rowing Basin in Montreal, Quebec on Aug. 24-26 and was the final sprint race of the 2012 racing season.
Members of the Severn River Rowing Club competed at the three-day regatta and performed well, earning five silver medals and one gold medal.
On Friday, Mike Smith and Diane Barr paired up to compete in the Mixed D Double scull race and earned a silver medal.
Later that day Brad Ingleton collected a silver medal in the Men’s C Single scull event.
The racing continued on Saturday, when Ingleton earned his second silver in the Men’s B single scull.
Diane Barr rowed to a silver medal in the women’s Lightweight D single.
Ingleton then teamed up with Bob Wink in the Men’s B Double and captured gold. In their final race of the day the duo placed second in the Men’s C Double.
Club members now shift their training to prepare for the longer-head racing season, where races range from three to five kilometres in length.
The first of the fall season, which is hosted by the Severn River Rowing Club, will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Gull Lake Rotary Park in Gravenhurst.
