WINDSOR -- Windsor boxer Mary Spencer hopes to make the most of a second chance given to her for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Spencer, a three-time world champion and eight-time Canadian national champion, was considered one of Canada's best medal hopefuls in boxing, but lost her opening match at the world championships in China this year to Sweden's Anna Laurell.

After a month of uncertainty, Spencer was granted a wildcard spot in the 75-kilogram weight class for the Games following an extended round of deliberation from an international panel.

Spencer, 27, is also a five-time Pan American Games gold medallist. Women's boxing is making its Olympic debut in London.
