Ontario Winter Games
Priscilla Campos has been to some pretty big judo tournaments in her young life, going so far as earning a silver medal at the nationals last year in Calgary.
But none of them compared to the Ontario Winter Games.
“It was amazing. I just liked being with so many people, standing in a big crowd,” said Campos of the opening ceremonies. They were nothing like what she usually experiences at even the biggest judo tournaments.
She also enjoyed the atmosphere that was created by so many different athletes being around, eating and staying together.
“It’s like a mini-Olympics,” said Campos. “It’s more organized and put together .... There’s big events like the dinner with all the athletes,” she added.
Campos didn’t end up competing due to a lack of competitors in her age and weight category at the games, but she did help out at the scoring table and got to watch fellow Almaguin Judo Club member Natalie Gennoe bring home a bronze medal for her division against five other fighters.
