HUNTSVILLE - True to the festive season, the Huntsville Curling Club enjoyed a full day of curling and camaraderie at the annual Turkey Spiel on Dec. 15.
Sharon Mace plays the rinks onto the sheet at the Huntsville Curling Club for the annual Turkey Spiel on Dec. 15.
The day started off with the curlers being piped onto the ice by Sharon Mace, a bagpiper from Bracebridge. This was new for most of the curlers and it felt like a professional tournament.
In total, 48 curlers took to the ice for two six-end games each. The Maw family sewed up the tourney.
George Maw’s team won the first draw and Lee Maw’s team won the second. The traditional prize of a frozen turkey has been sensibly replaced with gift cards from a local grocer.
Apart from curling, the day was full of activities. A quick fire game of Family Feud with Christmas-themed questions took place in between curling games. Survey says ... name the top three Christmas movies! It’s amazing how competitive some of the curlers can be off the ice!
A special thanks to Cheryl Bennett, a new member recently transferred from Fergus. She organized an amazing event which made everyone appreciative of her efforts.
Many of our leagues are wrapping up the season with one more week of play. A new season starts in January for all those interested in starting curling. Many of the leagues are meant for recreational players.
New to the club is a Sunday afternoon league. Many of the players in this league are graduates from our New Curlers’ clinic.
Please visit our website for more information on our leagues. New information regarding our facility rentals is now included on our website at www.huntsvillecurlingclub.ca.
