Strikers’ under-16 girls capture gold

HUNTSVILLE - The Huntsville Soul Sistas under-16 girls’ soccer team travelled to Barrie this past weekend to compete in the final tournament of a successful season.
The first game Saturday afternoon was played in suffocating heat and the girls had trouble coping. They dropped a close decision to Lincoln 2-1 with Kirsten MacDougall providing the lone goal for Huntsville.
The second match of the day proved to be much more entertaining with Huntsville coming away with a 3-1 victory over a game with the Wasaga Beach club. Tallying markers for Huntsville were Emily Britton, Laura Stilwell and Emily Hill.
Sunday morning Huntsville went up against South Simcoe and the girls were starting to hit their stride as they came away with a thoroughly dominating victory 2-0. The deciding goal was scored by Holly Lupton, with MacDougall adding the insurance goal.
This led to an exciting championship final against the previously unbeaten squad from Lincoln. Huntsville changed tactics to avenge an earlier loss and took the entire game away from Lincoln coming away with a convincing 3-0 victory and the championship trophy. Scoring goals for Huntsville were Maddie Austin, Emily Jones and MacDougall.
