Curling club calls it a season

HUNTSVILLE - Curling has completed yet another season.
The annual general meeting on Tuesday, May 29 at 7 p.m. will be the last of this year’s curling events.
The Tuesday afternoon women’s final draw is completed. Congratulations go to the winning team of Mary Magill, Ruth Passmore, Leslie Van der Meer and Sandra Corbett. Thanks to the sponsors Taylor Flooring.
A joint closing banquet for the Monday night and Tuesday afternoon women was held April 16 at the Hidden Valley Resort.  We wish everyone a great summer and look forward to seeing you next curling season.
New curlers of all ages and experience are always welcome.
The annual senior mixed bonspiel was held on March 22. Don and Linda Clelland hosted 12 teams from as far away as Powassan, Cannington and Woodville. Even though the day was balmy and warm the ice conditions were great and the curling was not only competitive but fun.
The trophy winner was the Joe Willemse team from Woodville defeating Huntsville’s George Maw team by a slim margin. Well done teams.
Every curler received prizes after their final games, which were prepared by Hope’s Foodland in Novar. They did a super job and donated a gift basket for the spiel that was won by Ann Oshell from Powassan.
A huge thanks to all the volunteers; without them bonspiels would not happen. First to chef Evan MacDonald and his very competent kitchen staff who prepared a delicious meal of ham and scalloped potatoes.
Thanks also go to Don Crawford and Roy Sullivan for their hard work on maintaining the ice conditions, and to Carl and Judy Seymour for contacting and organizing the teams.
Due to a technical problem the day of the spiel, we can’t thank Chris Harkness from Ron Pratt Electric enough for his prompt and professional response, which not only solved the electrical problem but saved the spiel.
The Wednesday night mixed league wrapped up for the season with another close game; it came down to the final rock, which needed to be measured.
The team of Lee Maw, Darrell Harper, Tammy Harrison and Donna Mason won the third draw. Thanks to our new sponsors of the final draw trophy, the Rick Wearing and Sandra Parrot team – Royal Lepage. Richard and Patsy Tousignant, the league directors, want to thank all those who participated in the Wednesday night mixed league and the sponsors throughout the season and look forward to another successful season starting next October.
Remember there is always room for more curlers to come out and have some fun with us.
Have a great summer everyone. See you at the annual general meeting and then in October.
