Colours tournament September 21-23

Bridge in the Afternoon

The Parry Sound Bridge club met on Tuesday, Sept. 11, and welcomed Joan Thompson to the duplicate tables.  Joan did very well as she and her partner were first overall.
Our taste buds were once again satisfied with Ken Burgoyne’s great peanut butter cookies, and the Ann Dunnigan garden produce was very much appreciated by the lucky ones who were able to walk away with the fresh vegetable treats.
Bob Jarvis was presented with a small token of our gratitude for his dedicated efforts in making this summers Chalk Talk interesting and productive.
Bob passed on more beads of wisdom for defensive play.  ATTITUDE, COUNT, and/or SUIT PREFERENCE are message plays to help partner who is on first card lead to determine what your holdings are.
With ‘attitude’, the card you follow suit with will instruct partner whether or not to carry on with the same suit, and the sequence in which you play your cards is how ‘count’ is established.  Suit preference is often used by partnership when continuation of the suit led appears illogical, or when you cannot follow led suit.
Your suit choice, or first ‘discard’ will indicate which suit you prefer led to you.
Bob informs us that since he is playing in the Parry Sound Colours Sectional Tournament, September 21, 22, 23, he will be prepared to talk again next Tuesday.  Yahoo for us!
For more information on the tournament call Margaret Dittmann at 705 389-2009.
