Hawks Win 2012 ISC II World Tournament Championship

MICHIGAN - It was a remarkable victory for the Parry Island Hawks Thursday who won the ISC II Championship Gord Newman Memorial Trophy at the International Softball Congress (ISC) Men’s World Fastball Tournament held in Midland, Michigan.
The Hawks lost their first two ISC games against Pete’s Blues of Illinois 2-0 and the Shakespeare Falcons of Ontario 4-3 that went into overtime into the eighth inning in this two tiered tournament.  The first 16 teams to lose two games automatically dropped to the ISC II division.
From that point onwards the Hawks went undefeated in the ISC II division with a straight four game win against the Wiarton Nationals 6-3, Venezuela Lanceros De Vargas 2-1, St. Thomas Evergreen Storm 5-0 and Aurora Dolan & Murphy of Illinois 2-0, leading up to the final championship game held on August 16 against Aurora Dolan and Murphy with the Hawks scoring the winning run of 1-0 at the bottom of the sixth inning.
For the Parry Island Hawks’ coach/manager Wally Tabobondung Sr., this is a lifetime achievement for him in the field of fastball.  Wally Sr. has been playing fastball for over 30 years, and is very honoured and humbled by the Hawks success at the ISC World Tournament.
Wally Sr. expresses his deepest gratitude to everyone who has sponsored and shown their support for the Hawks, whether that be through volunteering in fundraising, donations or in words of well wishes to the team.
He said he is especially touched that this ISC II Championship Trophy has been won in memory of his late cousin, Barry “Hawk” Tabobondung, who the team is named after.
Indeed, it is quite a remarkable victory for the Parry Island Hawks to win the ISC II championship division upon their first-ever world stage competition at the ISC Men’s World Fastball Tournament.
It is a well-deserved accomplishment for their perseverance and evident love of the sport since the team officially formed as the Parry Island Hawks four years ago.
