PARRY SOUND - For the second game in a row, Henry Ford opened up the scoring early for the Frank Penfold Construction U10 soccer team, but it was not enough as they eventually fell to the visiting Bracebridge Storm by a score of 6-3.
Ford found the back of the Bracbridge net in the 6th minute with a beautiful left footed strike that left the Bracebridge keeper flatfooted to give the home team a 1-0 lead early in the Simcoe County Soccer League match held at the Kinsmen field on Monday night.
Action was back and forth for most of the half with Blake Zoldy and Kurt Beatty making a formidable pair on the back line, clearing away many of the Bracebridge chances.
With his quick speed, Jayden Steele gave the Frank Penfold Construction team a 2-0 lead with a great goal and Brody Schneider, who started the half in net for the Parry Sound team, made some great saves, including one with a minute left in the half, but the Bracebridge team managed to score their first just before the final whistle for the half to cut the lead to 2-1.
Penfold Construction started the second half with Quinn Buckland in goal, but the Bracebridge side started the half off strong.
In the 31st minute, a hard shot from the left side was punched away by Buckland, but a hand ball in the box gave the Storm a penalty shot that they did not miss on to even the game at 2.
In the 36th minute, Ford almost had his second goal from range, but the Bracbridge keeper managed to tip the ball over the bar for a corner.
A minute later, Bracebridge found their first lead of the game with a perfectly placed ball that Buckland had no chance on. After that, Bracebridge stormed down the left side and crossed the ball in, where Buckland came out to clear it but a Bracebridge player managed to get there first and poke the ball in.
Within a few minutes, there was plenty of action in front of the Penfold net and the ball fell right at the feet of a Bracebridge player who did not miss to give the visitors a 5-2 lead.
A Bracebridge free kick from near the top of the box saw a great ball in that Buckland got most of, but it fell just short of the top of the bar and went over the line for the Storms 6th and final goal.
Jayden Steele finished off the scoring with his second of the game as he found the top corner in the 46th minute, but they Parry Sound team eventually finished on the losing side of a 6-3 score.
With this being the very first year that the Parry Sound boys are playing at this level, they are showing great promise and improvement form game to game.
