PARRY SOUND - On Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28, 49 participants bowled in the first ever Knockdown Cancer Fundraiser at Georgian Lanes.
This fundraiser was in support of the Canadian Cancer Society and over 80 bowling centres across Canada participated in this national campaign which ran the entire month of January.
Shoe rentals
Most centres donated anywhere between 25-50 cents from shoe rentals during the month of January to help raise funds and awareness for cancer research.
Organized by Christine Normore and Chris McDonald of Georgian Lanes Entertainment, the goal was to raise $2,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. Community support was given with over 20 local businesses sponsoring lanes, donating prizes, participating in bowling and raising money with pledge forms and cash donations leading up to the event at the end of January.
The event had participants bowl three different games:  One  regular game, one funky bowl game, and one bingo bowl game.
When all was said and done and the final total was tallied, over $3,500 was raised during the Knockdown Cancer campaign.
The planning for next January is already underway. It proves to be even bigger and better.
Many thanks to all who participated, donated, sponsored and supported this worthwhile cause!
