Two Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School boys soccer teams are advancing to the Georgian Bay Secondary Schools Association (GBSSA) championships in Barrie this week.
Facing off against Huntsville High School in a Muskoka-Parry Sound championship game Thursday, Oct. 18, the school’s junior boys team emerged victorious with a score of 6-0. In a following game against Parry Sound, the Bracebridge senior boys team secured a 2-0 win.
“They actually came together quite well in the final, Huntsville was the team that beat them before,” coach Jason Sprathoff said of the junior boys team. “They came back and played quite well again and pretty much shut them down.”
Sprathoff said the senior boys team has posted an equally impressive record this year, saying it hasn’t yet lost a game.
“They’ve done really well, we’ve got a really strong goalie and a really strong team game,” he said. “They play really well together and they’ve improved on their performances from last year as far as picking up their team games and helping out other players on our team.”
Though he doesn’t yet know who the two teams will be playing against at the GBSSA championships on Thursday, Oct. 25, Sprathoff said he has high hopes that the boys will turn in a repeat performance.
“I think we’re competitive with the level of play that those championships have,” he said. “I’m hoping they can keep their game at the level it needs to be at to be successful.”
