Introducing the Parry Sound Hockey Club executive for 2012-2013

Huntsville Forester

The new Parry Sound Hockey Club (PSHC) executive has been meeting at least once a month since May. We have been very busy preparing for the upcoming hockey season, and are striving hard to make this a great year for the players and families.
We have created a Facebook page where members can check out what is up and coming around the PSHC, see schedules, participate in surveys, see pictures, etc. We are also working on improving our website. Rick Thomas has been doing a great job keeping it up-to-date with all of the latest news and schedules, but we are trying to make it more user-friendly and interactive.
PSHC is looking for volunteers to help out with a fundraising committee. Our first fundraising goal is to raise money for new jerseys, club-wide.
We have some exciting development clinics coming up in October, watch our Facebook page and website for details.
One goal of this executive is to include our membership. As they did last year, minutes from all of our meetings are posted on the PSHC website. In addition, one meeting per month is open to members. Please feel free to join us and listen in. Open meeting dates are also posted on the website.
We looked forward to seeing everyone over the initial weeks, during tryouts and the rec league evaluation tournament. Go Shamrocks.
In an effort to tell you more about ourselves, each member has answered a few questions about their position and some of our favourite things.
Tim McWhirter, president – As president, I represent the association in the community, exercise general supervision of the association, act as chair of the board, the executive committee, and at all meetings of the membership. I am excited about getting to the rink and interact with the players and parents. My favourite movie is We Are Marshall. I am a fan of the Philadelphia Flyers, Team Canada and Mike Richards. Words to live by: “If I’m not part of the solution, I’m part of the problem.” My hobbies are golfing, being at the rink and best of all, spending time with my family.
Krissy Schneider, secretary - I am responsible for keeping all corporate records up-to-date and filed with the Ministry. I prepare and distribute the agenda for every meeting as well as recording and distributing the minutes of the meetings. I receive and distribute correspondence on behalf of the club. I assist in maintaining our website and Facebook page. I am responsible for maintaining a current list of members and running the annual general meeting along with the past president, ensuring that eligible members receive their right to vote. This season, I am most excited to watch the development and progression of my son’s entire team throughout the season. My all-time favourite movie is Pretty Woman. My favourite team (besides the Parry Sound Atom team) is the Ottawa Senators. In my spare time, I enjoy pottery, snowmobiling and boating.
James Cox, treasurer - As treasurer, I work with the bookkeeper to collect registration money and pay all of the bills for the club. I look forward to working with the kids during the hockey season. It is always great to see the smiles on their faces when they succeed.  My favourite movie is Top Gun. My favourite team is the Toronto Maple Leafs (I know, some day) and Evgeni Malkin is my favourite player  Words to live by: “All things are possible!”  In my spare time, I enjoy golf, boating and travelling.
Shelley Blower, ice time director, I am responsible for booking all rep and rec league ice, and preparing schedules for both leagues. I also negotiate play down contracts, when the time comes.
I am most excited to get the season started and hopefully be part of an executive that implements some new and exciting changes for the club. My favourite team is whatever team my son is on, followed closely by the Maple Leafs.  My favourite quote is: “Tell me and I will forget, show me and I might remember, involve me and I will understand.” In my spare time, I enjoy reading, camping and pottery.
Rob Marshall, rep league director – My job is to establish and monitor policies relating to rep hockey operations. I am looking forward to working as an executive member and learning the other end of minor hockey. I have always liked the movie The Godfather. My favourite quote is “A good hockey player plays where the puck is, a great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be.” My hobbies include boating and working on my backyard rink. My favourite team is the Toronto Maple Leafs and my all-time favourite player is Wayne Gretzky.
Steve Kidd, recreational director - My position on the board is rec league convener. My job is to set up all rec league teams and bench officials and to overlook the entire rec league, to be sure that the league is fun and productive. Looking forward to getting things set up and ready to go for the 2012-13 hockey season. My favourite movie is The Hangover. My favourite team is the Leafs. The phrase I use the most is: “What’s up?” My hobbies include guitar playing, hockey and spending time on the Bay when it’s hot, in my boat.
Scott Marshall, prevention services director - I help make sure that all volunteers, parents, family and players learn to respect each other within the club.
This is accomplished through certain mandatory courses, which promote no harassment or bullying as well as mandatory criminal records checks. I’m most excited regarding the upcoming season to see all players gain confidence through some of the new skill development training and improved coaching. I am a fan of the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. My favourite hockey team is the Boston Bruins, and my favourite player is Patrice Bergeron. The quote I like is: “Don’t just play-compete.” In my spare time, I enjoy a variety of sports, including men’s hockey.

I obtain sponsors for the Bobby Orr Hockey Hall of Fame Tournaments and organize the set up of the program for the tournaments. I also organize the sponsorship and volunteer appreciation night.
Finally, I organize, and schedule the photographer for the picture day and distribute the pictures when they come in. I am looking forward to watching the players having fun, getting exercise, and working as a team. My favourite movie is The Wizard of Oz. My team is the Montreal Canadians.
A wise person once said: “There comes a time in your life, when you walk away from all the drama and the people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh, forget the bad, and focus on the good. So love the people who treat you right, pray for the ones who don’t. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living.”
I enjoy biking, badminton, gardening and reading.
