Police and safety officials kick off minor ball season
Huntsville Forester
Bracebridge Minor Ball is kicking off its 2012 season with a fun day that includes getting to know the community safety officials.
The event was cancelled last Sunday because of the rain, but plans are in order for a day of fun and safety at Peake Fields on June 10.
Kim Rinaldo, one of the many volunteers involved with minor ball, said the event is open to everyone, not only those who play ball.
“The whole theme is play safe and building community awareness with our safety people,” she said.
Elves from Santa’s Village will be face painting, while children interact with the fire department and paramedics. The OPP will be using their radar guns to clock the speed at which kids throw baseballs.
The event is from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and includes a barbecue.
“We’re trying to get the community involved with minor ball,” said Rinaldo.
She said they want to introduce kids to the game, but also bring the community together.
“Even if you don’t have kids that play, come and watch a game, it’s really fun to just watch them,” she said.
