Re: School closure process continues, Wednesday article published March 13.
The suggestion that a lot of parents are “losing interest” in doing anything about the Grade 7s and 8s going to the high school, I believe, is inaccurate. We are not losing interest. We are merely tired of banging our heads against a brick wall.
A lot of us are tired from working at our jobs (sometimes more than one) and taking care of our kids. Some of us are busy with our volunteer positions.
Some of us can’t get babysitters, or afford them, so we don’t go to the meetings. Some of us do feel that the board will do whatever it wants, mostly due to the door being figuratively slammed in our faces at that first meeting, but also due to the board basically telling us they will decide whatever they want, regardless of any recommendations. We are supposed to come up with alternate ideas, so I propose your weekly survey help us with this endeavour. So far we don’t know what alternate ideas the board already had and rejected, if any. Maybe this was their first and only solution, and now they want us to do their jobs and come up with other solutions that they can vote on.
