Moving forward to thrive

On October 24, Muskoka Parry Sound Sexual Assault Services hosted a very special conference, Moving Forward From Survivor to Thriver.
This event is offered to the women of our agency and is meant to encourage a networking and learning experience for those affected by sexual assault and abuse. This is the third conference we have been fortunate enough to sponsor for our clients. The event saw 50 women attending a one-day event at Hidden Valley Inn in Huntsville.
The day opened with an inspirational Key Note Address by Angie Aickele, a Thriver and activist speaking of her journey. Workshops presented were Yoga & Trauma with Heather McFadyen, yoga practitioner and psychotherapist. Catherine Cole of the Great Vine offered a concurrent workshop entitled Complimentary Health Care Strategies for Survivors. The afternoon consisted of the women participating in a healing art project offered by Krysia Bower, a wonderful supporter of our agency,  entitled Spirit Painting. They also enjoyed wellness treatments offered by local practitioners. A very big thank you to those wonderful women who made such a difference to the conference practitioners: Linda Smith of Totally Pampered; Terri-Lynn Banks and Jaime Rimmington (represented by Lisa) of Gemini Hair Studio and Day Spa; Carol McVittie, masseuse; Linda Thoms of Tame Your Mane; Tanya Hedley who offered Reflexology Treatments; Dr. Marie Legault of Bracebridge Chiropractic and Wellness Centre, and Rebecca Van Gelder, masseuse. Thank you so much for making such a difference during the day. Also, a very big thank you to Darla Staponovich and Mary Anne Aqualina-Smith of Soapstones for helping us end the day with a special treat for each of the women. And of course, to the women who attended. Your strength and courage is truly inspiring and heroic.
