I would hate to think that the MTO accepted the cheapest quote for the road maintenance and highway ploughing but it would appear that the cheapest service is what they are getting, unfortunately we the public are again the ones who are suffering.
I have never seen Highway 11 and other major roads this bad in the winter. Now that people have started complaining and writing in to the newspaper the ploughing and clearance on some roads has improved.
Unfortunately we out at Oxtongue near Algonquin Park are not impressed.
Why do they turn the plough at Oxtongue lake Road and leave Highway 60 to the East covered in snow, we now get ploughed on an ad hock basis that bares no reality to the condition of the road, we know it is not the drivers because some of them are the ones that used to work for the old company.
Profits or cost cutting before safety? Who can say? All I do know is that when I come back from Huntsville I know exactly where the road will turn into an even worse snow and slush covered mess.
Last year while the snow was flying we used to hear the snow plough coming past all night and see it again regularly during the day, now I can get a good night’s sleep and have an afternoon nap without fear of being woken by our taxpayer dollars working for us.
