Friends of Foley Library has concerns for staff, public safety

(Editor’s note: This letter was sent to the Seguin Library Board and a copy was provided to the Beacon Star for publication).
Why does the librarian and summer student feel the need to resign their positions to due to safety issues at the Foley Branch Library?
Concerns have arisen for the safety of the staff and patrons, including children that use the Foley Branch Library, because of recent break-ins, theft and misuse of the Internet. Our mission, as a “Friends Group,” is to promote literacy in the community through the library.
To the best of the librarian’s limited resources, she has done all within her power to make the library a safe environment for all. We commend the librarian for her efforts. What we fail to understand is why the Library Board, the mayor and council have ignored this serious issue by seemingly doing nothing.
We are a Friends Group have concerns for the safety of staff and the public that use this facility. To date, we have seen no effort on the part of the Library Board, nor the mayor and council to resolve this issue.
