Reader disappointed with government cuts to science research on enviroment

Once again our MP has shown his ignorance of the environment in which he lives in his own riding.
By joining in lock-step with his exalted leader he has said that closing down the Experimental Lake project will not affect our area. Judi Brouse, who is the go to person for environmental knowledge for the Muskoka Watershed Council has disputed this in last week’s Forester with ample examples. This project is world renowned with scientists from around the world using knowledge gained here to help mitigate problems that can’t be tested on populated lakes including the possible ecological crisis that could be caused by declining calcium levels in our lakes.
Instead of being proud and supportive of our scientists, our Conservative government seems to go out of its way to put down any expert that possibly disagrees with any government policy. It is no wonder scientists leave the country to work in other areas where their knowledge is given the respect it deserves.
Mr. Clement has publicly stated that he will not be a hero and stand up for the environment. Hopefully enough people will remember this when the next election rolls around.

Bill Paterson
