On April 28, the ninth annual Score for Arthritis Street Hockey Tournament will be held at the town dock and Anderson property. Once again there are over 200 young people, age 7-18, registered to play. They will be going door-to-door raising funds for juvenile arthritis research. Over the past eight years approximately $157,000 has been raised. One out of every 1,000 children will develop juvenile arthritis.
They will have symptoms of stiff, swollen and often-painful joints as well as fatigue. Research has produced medications that aid in the reduction of inflammation and in some cases prevent joint damage. The Arthritis Society research will continue until a cure is found.
A heart felt thank you to the players, their sponsors, the local businesses and all of the volunteers who have made this such a successful event.
