Thanks Trudeau, for speaking to rural Liberals
Re: Justin Trudeau’s recent comments on the gun registry (during a conversation on CBC’s The House radio program last Saturday morning).
Thank you Justin Trudeau for saying what many Liberals in this riding felt all along, that the Gun Registry was a failure. It failed because it targeted innocent gun owners who already had taken the steps necessary to safely handle them. It failed because of its inability to prove, using fact-based evidence, that it could or actually did reduce gun crime. It failed because of the revenue spent to administer it could have gone to actual proven initiatives that reduce crime. That would include funding for programs that focus on eradicating poverty in our communities.
Study after study reveals to us that the level of poverty is directly related to the level of crime. I don’t recall a single study suggesting a registry system of law-abiding gun owners eradicated or reduced crime. Mr. Trudeau, thank you for speaking to rural Liberals on this issue.
