Properly restrain aggressive dogs

Huntsville Forester

I would like to thank the ER staff at the West Parry Sound Health Centre for their excellent care following a dog attack Tuesday morning; special thanks to Laurie, Nelson and Dr. George.
I enjoy my work and I love animals. The vast majority of my patients have always shown real concern for my wellbeing on visits with regard to their pets. I was attacked without warning or provocation immediately after my client opened the door. I now understand the real threat that unpredictable and poorly controlled animals pose to visiting caregivers.
Dog attacks are painful and debilitating. They cost taxpayers a small fortune ever year, due to health care and related costs and are completely preventable.
I am currently waiting to see if I will require further treatment, as the dog was frequently off leash and had not been inoculated.
I hope this letter will remind pet owners that aggressive animals should always be restrained.
If the owner is unable to control their pet, it is very unlikely a visitor at the door will be able to either.
