PARRY SOUND – A Seguin Township resident found a young woman lying on a couch inside his home at 3 a.m.
The Portage Lake Road homeowner called police at 3:07 a.m. on August 28 after discovering the intruder, and two men outside. The homeowner escorted the woman out of the home and was told by one of the three people to “keep your doors locked,” according to the West Parry Sound OPP.
Police patrolled the area and soon found the lounging woman. A 22-year-old woman of Huntsville was charged with Trespassing.
That was one of 228 calls for service the West Parry Sound OPP responded to between August 22 and August 28. Others included two break and enters, three assaults, one suspicious person, along with 24 separate calls to 911, six RIDE programs and one charge under the Liquor License Act.
Attempted theft
A Highway 141 marina owner in Seguin Township stopped three teens from stealing an ATV they had managed to turn on, police reported.
Police were called in at 10:02 p.m. on August 22 and unsuccessfully searched for the three attempted robbers using a canine unit.
The next day, police were directed to a cottage near the marina where three 17-year-old boys from Etobicoke and Toronto were arrested.
One youth, of Etobicoke, and another, of Toronto, were both charged with uttering threats, theft under $5,000 and assisting in an escape.
The third teenager was charged with uttering threats, theft over $5,000 and escaping lawful custody.
Suspicious vehicle
Two hours after police were called to the Seguin Township marina, police were called about a suspicious vehicle in the same area. A local resident called police about the vehicle at 12:11 a.m. on August 23, but couldn’t describe it.
The OPP urge timely calls of suspicious vehicles, people or activities for a quick response, said West Parry Sound OPP community services officer Charles Ostrom.
Traffic stop
A McKellar Township resident called police to the Highway 124 and McKellar Lake Road area at 3:26 p.m. on August 24 alleging they had spotted a woman driving a Jeep with a beer in hand.
Eight minutes later an officer stopped the suspected drunk driver, who was agitated and swore that someone in the community was targeting her. There was no alcohol in the vehicle.
The woman told the officer she didn’t have her driver’s license with her, but when the officer checked Ministry of Transportation records it turned out her driver’s license had been suspended.
The woman was issued a summons to court for driving while suspended.
Sharp turn
No one was injured on August 25, after a northbound Honda CRV tried to turn left on to Woods Road but instead hit a tree and rolled onto its side in a ditch.
There were five people, including two young children, in the SUV at the time. Police were called about the collision at 11:32 a.m. by a caller who reported speed as a factor. A 53-year-old woman of Brampton was charged with careless driving.
Leaving the scene
A Pontiac Sunfire was reported to police as having struck a tree alongside Blind Bay Road in Carling Township on August 26 at 12:33 p.m. According to the caller, no one was in the vehicle and both front airbags were deployed. When police arrived a tow truck was in the process of removing the car and an officer spoke with a man who identified himself as the driver. Alcohol wasn’t a factor, police reported.
A 17-year-old male of Hillside was charged with careless driving and failing to report an accident.
Rear-end
A three-car collision on Bowes Street, between Forest Street and Albert Street at 5:11 p.m. on August 27 blocked part of the roadway while it was investigated and the road cleaned up.
The collision was between a two cars and a minivan. One driver was taken to the West Parry Sound Health Centre with non-life-threatening injuries and two of the vehicles were towed away.
A 37-year-old woman of Wasauksing First Nation was charged with following too closely.
