WAHTA - On Wednesday, April 11, members of the OPP Street Crime Unit brought a lengthy investigation to a close when they executed a search warrant on a home near Bala.
Weapons, ammunition and drugs were seized at a home on Wahta Road 4 near Bala.
Officers entered the Wahta Road 4 residence and immediately located a number of unsafely stored firearms including prohibited/modified firearms. They seized an SKS rifle – a semi-automatic military weapon – and several large capacity cartridge magazines, which are prohibited devices, as well as hundreds of rounds of ammunition, other firearms, including a prohibited firearm, five pounds of marijuana and 12 grams of marijuana resin.
The Bracebridge OPP Street Crime Unit, Bracebridge OPP, Rama Police Service and Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment worked together on the investigation. As a result, 61-year-old Barry Decaire and 26-year-old Blake Decaire of Wahta First Nation were arrested and charged with several firearms related criminal charges. Blake Decaire was also charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act,
Both men are scheduled to appear in Bracebridge Court on May 22.
