Men's four-on-four hockey tourney cancelled

MacTier News

There were a couple of group cancellations to report about this week due to no turnout or poor turnout. The first one was the Township of Georgian Bay sponsored Smart Serve course that was to be held at the MacTier Library on February 20. The second one  is the four-on-four men’s hockey tournament that was to take place on March 1 and 2 at the MacTier Arena. Again teams not available, this was sponsored by the MacTier Lion’s Club.
So, let’s hope some from this area attend the free job fair sponsored by the Township of Georgian Bay on March 7. This takes place at the Baxter Ward Community Centre from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your resume, network, and explore employment options. For details on this contact Jennifer Whiston at 1-800-567-0187, ext 261.
The MacTier Figure Skating Club skating carnival takes place at the MacTier Arena on Sunday, March 3, at 3 p.m. The entry fee to carnival is a $2 donation. There will be the puck toss, come and support our local skating club.
The Canadian Pacific Railway is holding a public information session for the MacTier Community that neighbours the site of CP’s proposed grade-separation of the Maple Street rail crossing. The date is March 7 and times are from 4 to 8 p.m. at the MacTier Arena Hall. Using a variety of print and visual materials, this information session will provide you with up to date information regarding the key components, and the proposed implementation schedule. CP representatives and experts will be available to address questions and comments. For further information please visit www.cpr.ca or email at community connect@cpr.ca. Call toll free at 1-800-766-7912.
MacTier Public School recently held their winter whirl outside activities for all the classes. It was a rare nice day for the event. Here is a bit of school nostalgia. The first
Methodist Church was built in the summer of 1911, and opened in August of that year.
The first school was located at present day Muskoka Station Store and the old MacTier Library site. When the second school was built in 1920-21 on its present site they  converted the old school into a town hall.
There is a free Family Movie Night on Sunday, March 10 at 6:30 p.m. This is at the New Life Fellowship Church. Feature film comes from the Love Comes Softly book series.
Spring is just around the corner, let’s hope we are not flooded out with all this snow melting. Have a great week.
