New equipment for Britt fire department

BRITT - On Monday Jason Defosse of Code4 Fire and Rescue attended the hall to demonstrate the new tools the fire department purchased.
Rick Bearman of Ric Towing in Alban dropped off a vehicle to practise on. The first tool was a Hurst “Jaws of Life” eDraulic SC 350E all in one tool.
This battery-operated tool can cut, rip, and bend metal.  It has a spreading force of over 25,000 pounds.  The benefit of being battery operated is that the rescuers can start extrication while setting up the conventional equipment that uses a gas operated hydraulic pump.
The second tool is a JL-MocII Cutter that will go through almost anything like cutting through butter with a hot knife.  This cutter has a cutting force of 152,000 lbs. and requires lines to a hydraulic pump.  Defosse took the fire fighters through many situations using mostly the versatile SC 350E.
Being an extrication professional, Defosse demonstrated short cuts and tips on extrication to the department.
Although this equipment is expensive almost $25,000 it is money well spend both for the fire fighters and the victims.
The Department can now attack multiple locations at once.  On a side note one of the firefighters upon using the SC 350E all in one tool promptly labelled it “Robo Cutter” a name that will probably stick.
