Hello Pointe au Baril. What a great Winter Whirl weekend we had. The weather co-operated, thank you. There was a great turn out for broomball on Friday night. The old guys gave it their best shot, but as the night wore on there seemed to be only twenty-something-year-olds still playing.
The turn out for the euchre tournament was not what we expected, but the roads hadn’t been in the best shape. Still, the people that attended had a great time. First place went to Buggy Secord, second place was shared by Phyllis Rhodenizer and Ken Lavalley. Most lone hands went to Marg Beamish.
Frank Penfold generously donated a couple of consolation prizes that were won by Gail Thornton and Noel Lamore. Joan Penfold and Edgar Bush went home with the Share of the Wealth.
The carnival Saturday was cold but sunny. It looked like everyone was having a great time with the on ice activities. The following is the list of winners: Skeet shoot, Travis Wood who won in a shoot off with Mark Payne; archery, Phil Gardner; golf chipping:, Brandon Buttineau; plank races, Matthew Higman, Randy Dempsey, Eric Gardner and Doug; and hockey shoot out:, Judy.
We heard nothing but good things about the dinner; we served more this year than last and the dance floor was hopping all night. It was a great atmosphere and everyone attending had a blast. Thank you to everyone that participated, to the Winter Whirl Committee for all their efforts, everyone that helped in any way shape or form and especially to The Michael Granka Band for keeping us entertained for another year.
I had a call from Terry Zimmer who is staying with his sister Gail. He would like to thank everyone for the phone calls and well wishes.
I’m very happy to report that Jerry Evoy is home from a short stay in the hospital.
Belated birthday wishes to Sara West, February 6 and Shelley Gardner turned the big 50 on February 10.
Happy birthday to Tom Bracken and little Mason Marshall on February 17.
Get well wishes going to Greg Andrews who was in the hospital last week.
The Britt Winter Carnival is on all this week. I’m sure you all received the flyer in the mail.
There are a few of us that are going to try to attend a few of their activities. Hope to see some of you there.
Don’t forget guys, Valentine’s Day is on Thursday. Take her out to dinner, make it yourself, buy flowers or chocolates; whatever you do don’t let the day pass without showing your appreciation for your significant other.
That’s it for now. Have a great week Pointe au Baril. Contact me at devoypabnews@gmail.com or 705-774-1726.
