Could the Bracebridge arena serve beer?

Bracebridge Coun. Scott Young is wondering whether the Bracebridge arena can handle a little extra lubrication.
Young questioned whether alcohol could be sold at the arena during a general committee meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 22, as councillors were finalizing an agreement with the Bracebridge Phantoms for use of the arena.
“Has there ever been any exploration of selling beer out in the stands?” he asked.
Bracebridge culture and recreation director Leo Broere said the arena’s auditorium could handle the sale of the beverage, and that there has been some discussion about the issue in the past. However, he said the town would need to cut through some red tape in order to bring beer to the stands.
“It’d be very difficult to get an LCBO permit permitting beer in the stands; it’s not an easy transition getting from the auditorium into the stands,” he said.
Although adding beer to the menu could result in added revenue, Broere reminded council that there are other factors that the town must consider.
“I’m of two minds. I’d love to see them make money, but it’s also a family event and a family arena,” he said. “It might be something worthy of discussion later on.”
