PARRY SOUND - Remember the excitement that consumed us as we headed off that first week of school?
Next week begins the new school year. This means more pedestrians and vehicles on the roads early in the mornings and in the afternoons.
School busses will be busy picking up and dropping off our most precious cargo.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to take this time to remind all motorists to give yourself some extra time to get to your destinations. Watch for children on the roadways and crossing the roads. Slow down in a Community Safety Zone. Fine amounts are doubled for speeding in a Community Safety Zone. School busses make frequent stops. All motorists must stop in both directions when approaching a stopped school bus that has the lights flashing. Traffic flow begins again when the school bus begins to move. The fine for passing a stopped school bus with its lights flashing is $490 and six demerit points.
Having a safe back to school experience depends on all of us.
