ALMAGUIN – The Ice Devils are headed to the next level.
The Almaguin Ice Devils celebrated yet another goal against the Arran-Elderslie Icedogs during a game held Feb. 27 in Sundridge. After winning the competition 5-4, the Ice Devils are now headed to the semifinals.
After winning 5-4 against the Arran-Elderslie Icedogs on Feb. 27 in Sundridge, the team is now headed to the semifinals.
The win came together during Game 6 of the quarter-finals in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association Atom DD playdowns.
“These teams had already played five games against each other and were tied,” explained Ice Devils manager Rachel Milne. “Game 6 was to decide who would move on to the OMHA semifinals of the Atom DD division.”
According to Milne, this was a best three of five series, but after five games, the last being played on Arran-Elderslie turf, the two teams were tied with two wins and two losses each, and a tie between them.
The seats were filled with spectators on Monday night as the game got started.
“All 12 Ice Devils played great and we, the parents, are very proud of how far the team has come this year,” said Milne, noting the exciting play-by-play of the game.
Dragon St. Once put the first goal in for the Ice Devils, assisted by Nick Coleman, which was quickly followed by two more Ice Devil goals by Coleman, who was assisted by Jacob Whitfield and St. Once for the first, and Jacob Leggett for the second.
“This was a hard-fought series, led by our hot goalie Tyler Miller, and some sensational scoring from Nick Coleman, and backed by a hard working team,” said Milne. “Arran-Elderslie was a great match-up for our players and they had to fight for every goal and every win.”
The two teams ended up tied 3-3, until the second period when Coleman made his third goal of the night, unassisted, with barely three minutes left in the period. Coleman scored yet another goal late in the game.
“Tyler Miller, our goaltender, played a great series, making some awesome saves,” said Milne.
The Ice Devils are now set to play the Ontario Minor Hockey Association semifinals against the Douro Dukes. The game dates have yet to be announced.
