PARRY SOUND - Sail Parry Sound was able to turn an negative into a positive, with assistance from Seguin Township.
Held annually in early July, Sail Parry Sound had to cancel its Big Sound Challenge because of low registration numbers.
Seguin Township had donated $5,000 towards the event.
However, instead of clawing back the funds, the municipality said the not-for-profit organization could use the funds elsewhere.
“Thank you for your generous donation, and also for allowing us to redirect the donation from the cancelled Big Sound Challenge, to the purchase of a new boat for the sailing school,” said Sail Parry Sound president Larry Woolner in a letter to the township. “We will be pleased to add the new boat, The Seguin, to our fleet. The generosity of Seguin Township this year, and in the past, supports Sail Parry Sound in many ways, but most importantly, in our mission of ‘sailing to a better community.’”
Although Seguin allowed the sailing school to redirect its donation, in light of the cancelled event, the Township of the Archipelago requested its donation be returned, minus any costs incurred before the event was cancelled.
