Saturday, June 23 is the McKellar library’s 30th anniversary. Please drop by and join the celebration. A garage sale will also be held in the covered rink on that day, with proceeds going to the library.
Swim instruction
The Township of McKellar has hired Tyler Lewis as the new swim instructor this year for the Lifesaving Swim Program.  The first session for 2012 will begin on July 9 running through until July 27 and the second session will begin August 7 and run through until August 24. Register early at the township office during regular business hours or call (705) 389-2842.  The costs for residents are as follows: one child, $35; two children, $60; and three or more children, $75 per session. The cost for non residents are: one child, $40; two children,  $70; and  three or more children, $90 per session.
Fiction workshop
This five-week workshop, hosted by the McKellar Pioneer College, will be broken down into two parts and will run every Thursday from June 28 to July 26 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.  Classes will take place at the McKellar Community Centre and the cost is $15. The first day will focus on small writing exercise and tips and tools to take home.  Please bring the following: pen, backup pen, paper or notebook, a selection of manuscript or short stories with 12 copies to be distributed to others to be critiqued, a book you are currently reading, and an open mind.  For further information and to enrol you may contact Kelsey Ward by phone at 705-389-2842 or at  edc@township.mckellar.on.ca.  There is a 12-person maximum for this class so book early.
The Pioneer College is still on the hunt for teachers to come out and share their skills, so don’t be shy.
Hurdville Community Club
The club will be hosting their first pancake breakfast for the summer will take place on June 30 from 9 a.m. to noon.
This is a great fundraiser and is enjoyed by many each year. It also helps the club manage the cost of maintaining the hall.
McKellar Sunshine Club
McKellar Sunshine Club euchre winners on Thursday June 14 were: tied for first, Tom Phipps, Les Mitchiner and Cliff Cribbie.  Carol Buckingham won for most lone hands.  Dennis and Margaret Hutchinson were the carpet bowling winners.
Special awards were presented for high scores since last September.  Tom Phipps won for the top score in bid euchre with 357.
For regular euchre, Phyllis Schmidt had the highest score with 92.  Second highest was George Heatherington with 89, and Shirley Keating won for most lone hands in a single game with seven.
This was the last meeting before the club breaks for the summer and meetings will resume on Thursday, September 13.
Parry Sound and District Horticultural Society will host its annual summer flower show on Wednesday, June 27 at the Seguin Seniors hall at 80 James St. starting at 7:30 p.m.  There is no charge for the meeting and everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the flowers and our speaker, Linda Hugli. Linda is speaking on “Alternatives to Pesticides” and she will have good information on what to use to control pests in the garden.  
The garden tour this year is in the McKellar/Waubamik area on Sunday, July 8 and we are still open to adding other gardens to the tour.  If you would like to add your garden, or if you know someone with a great garden that might be interested, please call Maureen, 705-389-3773 or Margaret, 705-389-1264.
