Hello Pointe au Baril.
I hope everyone had a great week. Where is the time going? It’s hard to believe that June is here already. Before you know it we will be getting our winter woolies out again.
Last week I wrote about homemade blackfly repellents. I tried the vanilla and water recipe. It actually worked quite well. It certainly smelled better than the store bought repellents.
I received an email from Doug Milks on behalf of the Milks/Kushner families. They own the house that was vandalized on the North Shore Road. Here is part of that email:
“We live in Bill and Dorothy Coopers old place. It’s not much but to our family, it has a lot of memories and good times, which is why we were saddened to learn it had been vandalized. We wish to take this opportunity to say thanks. Your article showed concern and goodwill. It would have been easy to just drive by and not be concerned, but people cared and for that we are eternally grateful. Please thank everybody for us.”

I would like to welcome the newest resident of Pointe au Baril. On May 14 Cooper Edward Potvin was born, weighing 8lbs, 4oz. Proud parents are Michel and Heather Potvin. Excited siblings, Kailynn, Caiden, Hunter, Kendra and Henri. Proud grandparents, Henri Potvin and the late Jacquiline, Bill and Debbie Bulger and Ian and Theresa Spence-Branagh. Happy great-grandparents are Ted and Betty Gleeson and Marjorie Barager. Michel and Heather live in the Eye of the Eagle in Bayfield. Congratulations.
Sending out well wishes to Dorothy Johnson, she loves being called Dorothy. Dot has just completed her medical treatment and is on the road to recovery. We all hope you are doing well.
There are so many June birthdays coming up. As we all know, all the awesome people were born in this month. Here are a few that I know of for this week. I hope I haven’t omitted anyone. Happy Birthday wishes to Rhoda Gardner (June 3), Charlotte Penfold and Jessie Hutchinson.
This weather is a little crazy isn’t it? Someone turned the heat off this week. Hopefully the warm weather will return shortly. I never thought I would say this, but thank goodness for the rain this week. Things were getting pretty dry.
Last Thursday the Ministry of Natural Resources was called to a forest fire by Tower Lake. I’m sure people saw the helicopters and water bombers circling overhead. The Pointe au Baril Emergency Response Team (PABERT) responded to a call early Friday morning by residents on the South Shore Road. They could see and smell smoke down Paynes Road.
The MNR stated that because of the drop in temperature, the smoke from Thursday’s fire was being pushed down and becoming visible. The ministry did a great job and reacted quickly, containing something that could have been disastrous.
