BRACEBRIDGE - It was a meeting of the Greens on Sept. 7, as provincial Green party leader Mike Schreiner arrived in Bracebridge to help local candidate Matt Richter kick off his election campaign.
Joined by supporters and reporters at Richter’s new campaign office, both Richter and Schreiner spoke about the party’s vision of a sustainable future for both the Parry Sound-Muskoka riding and the province. The Green party’s platform, which was unveiled on May 24, involves recovering lost jobs in the economy, increasing the use of sustainable energy, assistance for agricultural businesses and improvements in health care.
Schreiner said the party will be offering voters an alternative to “politics as usual” at Queen’s Park.
“A vote for the other parties will only result in more of the same,” he said. “We are proud to have candidates just like Matt who are in touch with their communities and ready to work for the goals that benefit Ontarians for generations.”
Richter, a local schoolteacher, said he looks forward to taking on the next 30 days until election day, which he expects to be “one whirlwind of an adventure.”
“We have right now a fabulous opportunity to do politics in a better way,” he said. “What we have done over the past four years is bring forth to Parry Sound-Muskoka and Ontario a way of doing politics that says politics should be for the people, not just for politicians; politics can be about doing, not just talking.”
