The award was presented to Richardson and Leonard for their commitment and dedication to Muskoka women’s shelters and the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. Royal LePage Brokers from Dwight, Jay Richardson and Stephen Leonard, were honored earlier this month at the celebration for Royal LePage agents in Toronto for their remarkable contribution to the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation and local shelters, Chrysalis House and Muskoka Interval House.
The two-person team at Royal LePage Lakes of Muskoka Realty, Dwight Office, won the shelter award for team of the year in Ontario for 2009. They became involved with the foundation in 2009, dubbing themselves “the little office that could” and setting a goal to fundraise for their local shelters by hosting a large community garage sale as part of the National Garage Sale for Shelter.
The event in Dwight, which also took place at Royal LePage offices across Canada, was one of the best in the country. Their idea to bring an antique fire truck and karaoke singers helped get the attention of the whole community. They had so much traffic at their sale that their front porch gave way. They also spread awareness about the issue of family violence and told others how to get involved. Their efforts demonstrated that it doesn’t take a lot of people to make a big difference.
The distinguished and much sought-after award is presented yearly to agents who have made an outstanding or extraordinary contribution of time and effort to helping women and children living with abuse.
