With the help of area stores, Canadian Tire Corporation has donated 980 sleeping bags with built-in airbeds to the Ontario Winter Games.
Games manager Myke Malone and chair Scott Aitchison accepted the bags right off the truck in the receiving area of the Huntsville Canadian Tire location on Monday.
The bags will make more comfortable the cots the athletes will be sleeping on at Muskoka Woods and Ontario Pioneer Camp during the championships.
After the games, each athlete can buy their sleeping bag for a $10 donation to the company’s charity for youth sport, Jumpstart.
“We liked the idea of athletes helping younger athletes. It’s a terrific circle,” said Malone.
“Any that are not purchased by the athletes will be sent to homeless shelters in Toronto,” he added.
