Securities returned to Touchstone

MUSKOKA LAKES — Securities held for stormwater management provisions at Touchstone resort will be returned, a Muskoka Lakes committee decided last week.

Neighbours criticized the resort, located on Lake Muskoka off Muskoka Road 118, last December for failing to build an environmental treatment centre. At that time council agreed to place a holding zone on phase three of the development until the treatment centre is constructed.

Treatment centre pledge

Developers had pledged to build the treatment centre during their original pitch to council.

The security funds in this case are related to stormwater works, not the treatment facility, said Stephen Fahner, township director of planning.

The work is related to run-off from the property and parking areas and the works have been installed, he said.

The current security held for Touchstone was reduced in the amount of $127,380 for the completed stormwater management works, said Fahner.

Touchstone filed a $481,686 security on Jan. 12, 2007 with the township for paving, parking and access areas, stormwater management and construction mitigation measures, and landscaping, he said.

A letter from Cole Engineering confirmed any disturbed area related to the stormwater management works has been stabilized.
