Huntsville job fair another success

HUNTSVILLE - The 2013 Huntsville Job Fair was another success, according to a representative with YMCA Employment and Literacy Services.
Mary Ellen Fetterly, an employment specialist for the agency that organized the eighth annual event, said the fair attracted 43 employers and brought in hundreds of job-seekers to the afternoon event, held on March 7 at the Huntsville Place Mall.
“It is hard to determine the actual number of people looking for jobs at the fair because the mall has multiple entrances,” she said. “However, we print out programs to as many job-seekers as we can, and that helps us to determine how many people attended. I would say that we had between 550 to 600 people … I would be comfortable in saying that.”
The annual fair, which was held in the first few years at Legion Branch 232 before switching to the mall for the past five years, hosted local companies such as MBRP and Fowler Construction along with other agencies, including the OPP.
Fetterly said that the 2013 fair was received as well as any previous events.
“There isn’t a lot of variation from year to year. There was very good feedback from the exhibitors. The exhibitors were very pleased with the number of the resumes they received and the quality of the candidates. I had a couple of exhibitors tell me they got two or three good job candidates.”
