Influenza outbreak hits home

MUSKOKA - The Pines Long Term Care Home in Bracebridge is asking all visitors to stay away until the influenza outbreak has lifted.
Katherine Rannie, administrator for the home, said the Pines closed its doors to all visitors on the weekend after several cases of influenza were recognized in both staff and residents.
“We’re discouraging all regular visitation, however a few families and volunteers who have been vaccinated may be able to come in to assist with permission,” she said.
Rannie urges people to get their flu vaccinations and stay home when they are sick to prevent spreading it further within the community.
“Flu arrived in Simcoe-Muskoka earlier and there seems to be more of it than other years in the community,” she said.
Restrictions will be lifted when the outbreak is over.
