Storm knocks out power across Muskoka, Parry Sound

Poll
MUSKOKA-PARRY SOUND – Thousands of residents in Muskoka and Parry Sound found themselves in the dark on Tuesday morning.
Wind and rain connected to Hurricane Sandy stormed the province on the evening of Monday, Oct. 29, and by morning more than 94,000 Hydro One customers across Ontario were affected by power outages caused by weather.
“There are not any estimated times of restoration. Our crews are getting out there, now that there is daylight, and doing full assessments,” said a Hydro One representative on the morning of Oct. 30.
The energy provider’s website, however, estimated that most customers would have their power restored by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30.
Huntsville has 20,847 Hydro One customers, according to the company’s website, and 16,358 were affected by outages after the storm and into Tuesday morning.
And in Lake of Bays and Algonquin Park at least 5,810 customers found themselves without power.
Bracebridge saw 14,347 Hydro One customers without power while another 5,308 in Parry Sound found themselves in the same situation.
Hydro One said it did not know what to expect before the storm hit, though it tried to be prepared.
“We were listening to media reports, weather reports and ensuring we had crews all over the province that were ready to respond,” said the representative.
For updated power restoration information or to make inquires with Hydro One, visit the company’s website at www.hydroone.com/stormcentre or call its outage line at 1-800-434-1235.
